Anti-Inflammatory and Antibacterial Potential of Qicao Rukang Powder in Bovine Subclinical Mastitis

Abstract: Background. Subclinical mastitis is one of the most common reproductive diseases in dairy cows. Qicao Rukang powder is a Chinese herbal compound mixture developed to treat subclinical mastitis in dairy cows by clearing heat, tonifying qi, and improving blood and milk circulation. The study aimed to determine the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial efficacy of Qicao Rukang powder in treating subclinical mastitis in dairy cows at the manufacturer’s recommended dose. Methods. Forty (40) Holstein dairy cows with m… Show more

“…This stimulates the immune response, leading to an increase in the number of somatic cells in the milk and the level of circulating endotoxin, which leads to an increase in the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines (Ashraf and Imran, 2020). IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α are important pro-inflammatory cytokines involved in mastitis (Zhu et al, 2007;Imam et al, 2021;Liu et al, 2021). In the present study, LPS significantly decreased the cell viability of MAC-T cells with a dose-dependent effect, indicating that LPS causes cell damage to MAC-T cells.…”

“…Therefore, for therapeutic purposes, different authors use physiotherapy: Leitner et al (2021) —acoustic impulses; Lubimov et al (2020) —frequency and resonance therapy; and Moreira et al (2018) —photodynamic therapy. In another case, homeopathic preparations are used: Imam et al (2021) and Ajose et al (2022) —a mixture of plant compounds; Yang et al (2019) — Angelica and Rheum extracts; Larionov et al (2019) —ichthyol ointment and trauma gel; Zainettinova et al (2019) —a complex of antimicrobial and vitamin preparations; and Mukhamadieva et al (2022) —ASD + sea buckthorn oil. Therefore, the search for an effective method of treatment remains an important area of scientific research.…”
