Problem statement:Recurrent abortion is a difficult medical problem happening in about 1-2% of fertile women. Rubella is of high public health importance owing to teratogenic effects that can lead to fetal death, miscarriage, stillbirth, or infants during the first 16 weeks of gestation. As there were not data about role this virus in abortion in this area of IRAN, this study was conducted to assess the seroprevalence of Rubella virus in women with spontaneous abortion in comparison with healthy women (without history of abortion) in South of IRAN in order to establish basic knowledge for future pregnancy care in this area of IRAN. Approach: Present survey basically was carried out in Shariatee Hospital of Hormozgan University of medical sciences, Bandarabbas, Hormozgan province, located in border of Persian Gulf-2005. A number of 220 women with definite diagnosis of previous abortion and 200 matched women with normal full term delivery and without history of miscarriage as controls were studied as case and control groups. All obtained sera from the case and the control groups were then tested using ELISA method for determine of rubella virus antibodies. Data was analyzed, using SPSS software (chi square and t-test). Results: There were significant differences in seroprevalence of anti-rubella IgG and IgM in the case group than in the control group. Conclusion: According to the results of our research, rubella virus is presented as an etiologic factor for spontaneous abortion in this area of IRAN.

Problem statement: Ischemic cardiac manifestations have been reported in a various percentage of patients with anti-phospholipid antibodies. Data concerning the relation between anti-Phospholipid (aPL) antibodies and myocardial infarction in subjects without evidence of overt autoimmune disease are conflicting. Anti-beta2 glycoprotein-I (anti-beta2-GPI) antibody is detected in various diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome. The study of anti-beta2-GPI antibody in Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) might shed light on etiologic mechanisms in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndromes. The purpose of the present study was to determine association of plasma aPL antibodies, namely, anti-beta2-GPI antibodies, with AMI. This study was designed to investigate whether prevalence of anti-beta2-GPI antibodies, in patients who had acute myocardial infarction and to analyze their relationship with traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Approach: We investigated the prevalence of anti-beta2-GPI IgG in a well characterized group of patients with AMI as a case group. Sera from 74 patients with AMI and from 76 healthy subjects, matched for age and sex as a control group. Using ELISA to evaluate the presence of IgG isotype of anti-beta2-GPI autoantibodies in their sera. Results: The prevalence of anti-beta2-GPI IgG in the control group (10.50%) resulted significantly lower than in patients with AMI (37.80%) (p<0.005). There was significant difference between positive anti-β2-GPI test in patients with STEMI and those with NSTEMI (66.7% Vs 36.4%), (p = 0.020). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that anti-beta2-GPI IgG antibodies seemed to behave as independent risk factors for myocardial infarction, which may represent a link between autoimmunity and atherosclerosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Further studies with bigger patients are needed to explore association of anti-β2-GPI IgG with STEMI and NSTEMI.

Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is the combined result of environmental factors and personal predispositions. Many factors play a role in AMI including anti-Phospholipid (aPL) antibodies, that may act in the induction of immunological response leading to the development of AMI. AntiPhosphatidylserine (PS) antibody is detected in various diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome. The study of anti-PS antibody in AMI might shed light on etiologic mechanisms in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndromes. This study was conducted to evaluate whether prevalence of anti-PS antibodies, in patients who had AMI and to analyze their relationship with traditional cardiovascular risk factors. The prevalence of anti-PS IgG and IgM in a well characterized group of patients with AMI as a case group and in age and sex matched healthy subjects as control group. Sera from two groups were tested to evaluate the presence of IgG and IgM isotypes to anti-PS by ELISA method. The frequencies of positive test for anti-PS IgG were 26.70 and 8.90% among patients and controls respectively with significant difference (p = 0.003). The anti-PS IgM frequencies were 12.20 and 1.10% in patients and the controls, with significant difference (p = 0.005). The findings of this study suggest that anti-PS antibodies seemed to play a role in AMI, independent risk factors for AMI, which may represent a link between autoimmunity and atherosclerosis in patients with AMI. Further studies with bigger sample size including patients with AMI and healthy people are recommended to explore the exact role of anti-PS antibodies in AMI.
