Antibacterial Activity of Dodecylamine Dialdehyde Starch Schiff Base Derivatives

Abstract: Dodecylamine dialdehyde starch (DASDA) is synthesized with corn starch, sodium periodate, and dodecylamine, and its structure, particle morphology, crystal structure, and thermal properties are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis. Antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus suggests that minimum inhibitory concentrations of DASDA against E. coli and S. aureus are 0.31 and 0.63 mg … Show more

“…Such thermal behaviour for DAS has been reported previously. 40,52–54 From the TG curves in Fig. 5B, it could be seen that the decomposition temperature for the hydrogels loaded with the C. papaya peel extract is higher than that of the neat CsDAS hydrogel.…”

“…Synthesis of Dialdehyde Starch (DAS): Dialdehyde starch (DAS) was synthesized by the selective oxidation of corn starch (St) solution with a certain amount of sodium periodate in a stirred three-neck flask at pH = 3.5 at 25 °C for 6 h, [44,45] and then the content of aldehydes in DAS were determined by alkali loss method.…”

“…Carboxymethyl chitosan dialdehyde starch Schiff alkali metal complex was prepared by reaction of carboxymethyl chitosan dialdehyde starch with 0.05 mol L −1 metal salt solution (copper sulfate, silver nitrate, nickel nitrate, and zinc nitrate) in a beaker at 25 °C for 6 h, [ 44 ] and then filtered and dried at 50 °C for 2 h in a vacuum drying oven. The adsorption capacity of copper, [ 34 ] nickel, [ 34 ] and zinc [ 34 ] was determined by EDTA titration, and silver[I] was titrated by potentiometric titration with potassium bromide.…”

“…An STD Q600 thermogravimeter (TA Instruments, Co., Ltd., Newcastle, DE, USA) was used to determine the pyrolysis characteristics and thermal stability in the Ganoderma carbon samples [25]. A 10-mg carbon sample in an alumina crucible was weighed and heated from 30 °C to 800 °C at a heating rate of 10 °C/min under a nitrogen atmosphere.…”
