Antibacterial Activity ofHelichrysum italicumOil on Vegetables and Its Mechanism of Action

Abstract: In the present paper, the chemical composition of Helichrysum italicum oil was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Neryl acetate (32.65%) was the main component. The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of H. italicum oil against several bacteria were evaluated. The results showed that H. italicum oil exhibited high antibacterial activity against all of the bacteria tested. In addition, H. italicum oil also displayed a significant effect on inhibiting th… Show more

“…Recently biodegradable materials especially of plant sources possessed special importance in fresh cut fruits and vegetables. Curry EO and its liposomes (Cui, Li, & Lin, ), Helichrysum italicum oil (Cui et al, ) , Artemisia annua oil liposomes with edible agar films containing chitosan (Cui, Yuan, Li, & Lin, ) and many other encapsulated essential oils and bioactive compounds were engineered to overcome volatility to be used as biodegradable coating materials.…”
