Antibodies to Selected Viral Disease Agents in Wild Boars from the Czech Republic

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Blood samples were collected from wild boar (Sus scrofa) shot during the hunting season from 1999 to 2005 in the Czech Republic. Sera were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the presence of antibodies against classical swine fever virus (CSFV), swine vesicular disease virus (SVDV), Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV), and bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV). Indirect fluorescence antibody test was used for detection of antibodies against porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2) and transmissible gastr… Show more

“…Although information on the prevalence of TGEV and PCRV in European wild boars is limited, evidence of infection has been reported (Vengust et al, 2006;Sedlak et al, 2008;Kaden et al, 2009). Our findings of very low prevalence indicate that infection with these viruses is not widespread in Croatian wild boars.…”

“…In addition to PMWS, PCV-2 has been attributed to various other clinical conditions such as reproductive disorders, porcine respiratory disease complex, porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome, proliferating necrotizing pneumonia and congenital tremors (3)(4)(5). PCV-2 has also been detected in wild boars in several other European countries, such as Belgium, Spain, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany, either by antibody or virus detection (6)(7)(8). Sporadic cases of PMWS were noted in feral pigs (9) and that places them in the position of reservoir hosts of PCV-2.…”

“…In wild boar populations prevalence of antibody to PCV2 was 50% in Spain (Vicente et al, 2004;Ruiz-Fons et al, 2006) and 43% in the Czech Republic (Sedlak et al, 2008) and PMWS in wild boars has been described in many countries including the USA (Ellis et al, 2003), Brazil (Correa et al, 2006), Germany (Schulze et al, 2004), Croatia (Lipej et al, 2007), Greece (Sofia et al, 2008), and Italy (Petrini et al, 2009). We estimated the prevalence of PCV2 infection in Polish wild boars based on real-time PCR and evaluated phylogenetic relationship of PCV2 from wild boars and domestic pigs in Poland.…”
