Anticancer Activity of Ipomoea purpurea Leaves Extracts in Monolayer and Three-Dimensional Cell Culture

Abstract: Cancer is a leading cause of death and a vital health care challenge in the world. Hence, this work was conducted to determine the in vitro anticancer property and also the molecular mechanism of aqueous and organic extracts of Ipomoea purpurea leaves in three human cancer cell lines, including A-549 (human lung cancer), HepG-2 (human liver cancer), MDA-MB-231 (human breast cancer), and MCF-10A (breast normal cell line). In vitro cytotoxic potential of organic extracts, such as hexane, chloroform, ethyl-acetat… Show more

“…In this model, tumor ECM is completely controlled by CSF, which facilitates the study of the interaction between tumor cells and TME. Beheshti ( 77 ) et al. used a combination of the hanging drop method and the liquid covering method to form 3D multicellular spheres to test the anticancer effect of Ipomoea purpurea.…”

“…The flowers of I. purpurea contain antioxidant molecules such as cyanidin and pelargonidin. Also, this species along with species tricolor and violacea are enriched with ergoline derivatives such as lysergol and isoergine, so these plants are known for entheogen activities (Meira et al, 2012;Beheshti et al, 2021). This study's objectives were to assess I. purpurea leaves extracts' antioxidant activity and to characterize the possible chemical components using GC-MS.…”
