Anticoccidial Efficacy of Narasin in Floor Pen Trials

Abstract: Narasin is effective against all species of chicken coccidia when tested in short-term battery cage experiments. The efficacy of narasin at concentrations of 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 ppm was evaluated in ten floor pen trials in which commercial broiler production conditions were simulated. To provide intentional exposure to different levels of coccidia challenge, the litter of some pens was seeded with oocysts of each of the pathogenic species of chicken coccidia, whereas some pens were left nonseeded. Weight g… Show more

“…resembles the usual mode of transmission of oocysts, surviving in the farm environment from previous flocks to newly introduced birds (Jenkins et al 2019). This protocol is adopted by the German Veterinary Society (DVG 2007), and by other researchers in the same field of specialization (Danforth et al 1977;Jeffers et al 1988;Bafundo et al 1989;Lee and Lee 2007).…”

“…according to the method described by Jeffers et al (1988). This was performed by placing 120 commercial broiler chicks across 24 of 48 floor pens (5 birds/pen) that contained fresh pine shavings.…”

“…A narasina é utilizada principalmente em aves domésticas, devido a capacidade coccidiostática (JEFFERS et al, 1988), e como promotor de crescimento para suínos (WUETHRICH et al, 1998;ARKFELD et al, 2015). Em experimento realizado in vitro, Berg e Hamill (1978) afirmaram que a narasina foi ativa contra bactérias Gram-positivas e fungos, elucidando a capacidade da molécula em controlar a população microbiana.…”
