Anticorrosive Effects of Essential Oils Obtained from White Wormwood and Arâr Plants

Abstract: This article is part of the contribution to the development of two medicinal plants widely used by the Moroccan population: white wormwood (Artemisia herba-alba) andArâr (Juniperus phoenicea), species belonging to the Asteraceae and Cupressaceae families, respectively. The present work was conducted to investigate the chemical composition and anticorrosive properties of essential oils (EOs) extracted from these plants. The chemical analysis of the essential oils (EOs) was carried out by GC-MS/MS. Potentiodynam… Show more

“…As a complement to experimental assessments, quantum chemistry approaches such as DFT and DFTB are now being explored to gain insights into the anticorrosive mechanism of essential oils by elucidating the electronic properties of their primary constituents. Beniaich et al 523 utilized the DFT method to study the adsorption of Artemisia herba-alba essential oils on metal surfaces, providing spatial distributions in the aqueous phase (Fig. 20).…”

“…In addition, wormwood can treat serious gastrointestinal diseases caused by parasites such as pinworms, roundworms, and tapeworms. From a historical perspective, wormwood was once considered the preferred drug for treating intestinal worms, but due to the serious side effects associated with absinthe, it is no longer popular [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ]. In a 2017 research report, extracts of Artemisia absinthium were found to be effective in killing Hymenolepis nana in laboratory mice.…”
