“…This could be due to the combination of F. cernua extract with the other components of the nanolaminates, resulting in a better antimicrobial capacity. These results evidenced the antifungal activity of the ethanol extract of F. cernua, demonstrated in vitro (Jasso de Rodríguez et al, 2007Rodríguez et al, , 2017, which was also observed on the fruit in this study. This effect could be promoted by the combination of the extract with chitosan, which has also reported antifungal activities (Rabea et al, 2003;Ai et al, 2012;Ruiz-Navajas et al, 2013).…”

“…The positive effect of the nanolaminate coating with the F. cernua extract can inhibit the microorganisms. The antifungal effect of F. cernua has been reported in vitro (Jasso de Rodríguez et al, 2007Rodríguez et al, , 2017, as well as for chitosan on green asparagus (Qiu et al, 2014).…”

“…The genus Flourensia is formed by about 42 species, which at least nine of them have been found in Mexico (Rios, 2015), and three are considered as endemic of the state of Coahuila: F. cernua, F. microphylla, and F. retinophylla (Jasso de Rodríguez et al, 2007). F. cernua, commonly known as "hojasén" is the most studied species, as it has proven antifungal, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties (Jasso de its structure (Jasso de Rodríguez et al, 2017b;Stuppner and Müller, 1994;Dillon and Marby, 1977). Meanwhile, F. microphylla has shown antifungal, and also anti-inflammatory, and apoptotic effects on HT-29 colon cancer cells; in which were identified polyols, fatty acids esters, phenolic amines, phenolic compounds, and flavonoids (Jasso de Rodríguez et al, 2017b,a).…”
