Antiinflammatory, diuretic and antimicrobial activities of Rungia pectinata linn. and Rungia repens nees

Abstract: The hydroalcoholic extracts prepared from leaves of Rungia pectinata and Rungia repens were investigated for antiinflammatory and diuretic activity in wistar rats. The results obtained were compared with that of standard drug aspirin and frusemide for their antiinflammatory and diuretic activity respectively. The acute toxicity study was also carried out using adult swiss albino mice of either sex which indicates the safety of the extracts even at a dose of 4000 mg/kg. R. pectinata showed better anti-inflammat… Show more

“…Routine urinalysis including determination of pH and specific gravity along with presence of occult blood, bilirubin, urobilinogen, ketone bodies, proteins, nitrite, glucose, and leucocytes in urine was carried out using urocolor test strips (Standard Diagnostics Inc., South Korea) for urine samples of control and extract treated rats. Urine volume (ml/100 g) and Na + , K + and Cl - concentrations (mEq/l/100 g) in the urine were determined[ 15 ] and various indices for diuretic action were calculated. [ 14 16 17 ]…”

“…Efek flavonoid sebagai diuretik sekaligus antiinflamasi dilaporkan oleh Swain et al (2008) dan Xiao et al 2005. Namun kekuatan efek antinflamasi flavonoid dari tanaman yang sama maupun berbeda tidak selalu sama tergantung pada pelarut, dan cara ekstraksi.…”

“…The antibacterial assay was performed using the paper disc diffusion method described by Navarro et al, 1998;Swain et al, 2008. Distinct concentrations of the fruit extracts (0.075, 0.10, 0.20, 0.40, 0.60, and 1.00mg/μl) were prepared with petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol.…”
