Antilisterial Effect ofRosa damascenaandNymphaea albainMus musculus

Abstract: The present study was proposed to investigate the toxicological and prophylactic potential of ethanolic extracts of Rosa damascena and Nymphaea alba and their mixture in albino mice. For toxicity study, three different doses of plant extracts were orally administrated to three groups of mice for 14 successive days. Blood biochemistry and histological examinations of liver and kidney revealed that these extracts had no harmful effects up to 1000 mg/kg. To determine the prophylactic effects of Rosa damascena, Ny… Show more

“…Trolox equivalent values for the leaf extract were as follows: 28,933 µg TEq/1 g (BCB assay), 1309 µg TEq/1 g (ABTS assay) and 2245 µg TEq/1 g (FRAP assay). Our results are in accord with those of the literature data, which showed strong scavenging activity of DPPH radical for the aqueous and ethanolic flower and rhizome extracts of Nymphaea alba [55][56][57].…”

“…Several studies on the antibacterial activity of plant extracts and plant parts on Listeria monocytogenes have been performed; this pathogen is responsible for listeriosis, a disease with a high mortality rate (20%) in risk populations and considered a major food safety problem worldwide (Pouillot et al, 2012;Ceruso et al, 2020). Some of these investigations attribute the inhibitory effect on L. monocytogenes to the presence of phytochemical compounds, such as alkaloids, polyphenolic compounds, gallic acid, glycosides, tannic acid, flavonoids and sterols (Batool et al, 2018). Following this line, in the present work, 86.4% of inhibition for Streptococcus mutans was found with the methanol extract of the Jacaranda flower.…”
