Antimicrobial Activities of Some Amino Derivatives of 5,7-Dibromo-2-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline.

Abstract: The bromine atoms of the title compound, 5,7-dibromo-2-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline were replaced by the requisite amino compound to afford 6 amino derivatives viz: bis(diethylamino)-, bis(dibutylamino)-, bis(dicyclohexylamino)-, dipyrolidino-, dipiperidino- and dipiperazino derivatives. The antimicrobial activity of these compounds were investigated against selected gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis), gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and yeast (Candida… Show more

“…As with the microarray, we tested K. pneumoniae Ecl8⌬rarA/pACrarA-2 (rarA-overexpressing strain) and K. pneumoniae Ecl8⌬rarA/pACYC184 (vector-only control), using the PM11-20 chemical sensitivity assay plates. The overexpression of rarA resulted in enhanced growth in the presence of antimicrobials, such as beta-lactams (narrow-, expanded-, and broad-spectrum cephalosporins and fluoroquinolones, such as ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin), fungicides (such as clioquinol), and disinfectants, such as 8-hydroxyquinoline (Table 3), a topical skin disinfectant from the antibacterial alkoxyquinolines (24)(25)(26). The increased growth of Ecl8⌬rarA/pACrarA-2 compared to the vector-only control Ecl8⌬rarA/pACYC184 in the presence of ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin is consistent with previous work (5).…”

“…Transition metal ions are well known to have many biological functions, such as antimicrobial or fungicidal activity (Okide et al, 2000;Patel et al, 1999), or have redox activity such as Fenton-type reactions (Kasprzak, 2002) inducing toxicity or carcinogenesis. Zn II is well known for its insulinomimetic activity (e.g.…”

“…They are used as reagents in the extraction of metals in analytical chemistry and for metal preparation in hydro metallurgy [32]. Some of its metal complexes with copper(II), zinc(II), or nickel(II) have remarkable antibacterial and antifungal properties [33,34]. Its Bi(III) complex shows antitumor activity against leukemia [35].…”
