Antimicrobial Activity of the Extracts and Fractions of Hexanic Fruits ofCampomanesiaSpecies (Myrtaceae)

Abstract: The antimicrobial activity of the hexanic extracts and fractions of fruits of Campomanesia pubescens pubescens (D.C) O. Berg and Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) O. Berg were assayed against six microorganisms. The hexanic extracts of C. pubescens and C. adamantium fruits were also investigated in their composition by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection. The results of this study showed the presence of 34 volatile compounds and flavonoids… Show more

“…In the extract of fruits [32,33] and leaves [31,36] of C. adamantium, species with the same genus of flavononas and chalconas have been identified, among them 2′,4′-dihydroxy-3′,5′-dimethyl-6′-methoxychalcone. On the other hand, 2′,4′-dihydroxy-3′,5′-dimethyl-6′ methoxychalcone were identified in fruits of C.pubescens [19].…”

“…The leaves of C. adamantium are used as infusion in the treatment of diarrhoea and bladder diseases (Cardoso et al, 2010). Guavira fruits have an agreeable flavour and aroma as well as elevated vitamin contents (Ramos, Cardoso, & Yamamoto, 2007) and are widely used in the production of homemade liqueurs, juices & sweets (Cardoso et al, 2010).…”

“…Moreover, the oral administration of the Campomanesia xanthocarpa extract at 400 mg/kg attenuated gastric mucosal lesions induced by ethanol in rats (Markman et al, 2004). Antimicrobial activities of hexanic extracts and fractions of Campomanesia pubsenses and Campomanesia admantium fruits have also been reported in the literature (Cardoso et al, 2010).…”
