Antimicrobial and mechanical properties of functionalized textile by nanoarchitectured photoinduced Ag@polymer coating

Abstract: The control of microbial proliferation is a constant battle, especially in the medical field where surfaces, equipment, and textiles need to be cleaned on a daily basis. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) possess well-documented antimicrobial properties and by combining them with a physical matrix, they can be applied to various surfaces to limit microbial contamination. With this in mind, a rapid and easy way to implement a photoinduced approach was investigated for textile functionalization with a silver@polymer s… Show more

“…Shifts in these peaks at lower (blue shift) and higher (red shift) wavenumbers are due to the chemical bond length of molecules ( 40 ). The larger bond length causes a shift to a lower wavenumber and vice-versa ( 41 ). Major peak shifts were observed in LN-229 cells at the periphery compared to the nucleus ( Figure 6I ; Table S2 ).…”

“…It should also be noted that there is no solvent present in these ink formulations, so heat is not required to remove carrier solvent from the ink formulations, and the films solidify as the polymerization is completed. This work has also been extended to include MOD ink formulations to produce gold films and textiles with polymer/silver-based structures with antimicrobial activity. , …”
