Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles of UrinaryEscherichia ColiIsolates

Abstract: Current knowledge on antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of uropathogens is necessary for appropriate therapy. The objective of this study was to investigate antibiotic susceptibility of 28 clinically isolated strains Escherichia coli, associated with different urinary tract infections. Lowest susceptibility detected was for betalactams ampicillin and ampicillin/sulbactam. High susceptibility was detected for aminoglycoside antibiotics. Approximately half of investigated strain showed multidrug resistance pro… Show more

“…Similar findings had been previously observed in south east Asian region [12,13,19]. Reported resistance rate against these drugs was comparatively lower in Iran (19.6%) [20] and in Bangladesh, it was 32% [21]. Based on phenotypic testing, we found that 43.25% of the isolates were ESBL producers.…”

“…Similar findings had been previously observed in South East Asian region [ 50 – 52 ]. Reported resistance rate against these drugs was comparatively lower in previous study in Iran (19.6 %) [ 53 ] and in Bangladesh, it was 32 % [ 54 ]. However, observed higher percentages of resistances against Cephalothin drugs indicated that they could render their efficacies as therapeutic agents, particularly in Iranian population.…”

“…P fimbriae recognize the α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1-4)-β-Dgalactopyranoside moiety present in the globoseries of glycolipids located in the human kidney as well as on erythrocytes. Both type 1 and P fimbriae trigger host responses that include cytokine production, inflammation, and exfoliation of infected bladder epithelial cells (12,19 (11).…”
