“…On our study, S. aureus was detected in 37.32% of the isolates. The presence of S. aureus in bulk milk tank in the current study was reported to be higher by 75%, 70.4% 55.7%, 55.26%, and 39.8%, in comparison to previous study from Norway, Brazil, Czech Republic, Algeria, and Kosova, respectively (Jørgensen et al, 2005;Rall et al, 2008;Zouharova & Rysanek, 2008;Chaalal et al, 2016;Mehmeti et al, 2017). By contrast, researchers from Switzerland, Oran, and Brazil reported lower levels of S. aureus than the current study (Muehlherr et al, 2003;Fagundes et al, 2010;Lee et al, 2012;Jamali et al, 2015).…”

“…Multidrug resistance is defined as resistance of an isolate to two or more antibiotics (Olayinka et al, 2004). This finding is in consonance with the findings of Umaru et al (2013), Anueyiagu and Isiyaku (2015), Tessema (2016), andChaalal et al (2016) who reported cases of multidrug resistance among S. aureus isolated from dairy products in Zaria, Jos, Ethiopia, and Algeria respectively. The isolates were resistant to a combination of three, four, five, and six of the antibiotics tested.…”

“…The percentage occurrence of S. aureus in fresh and fermented milk in parts of Nasarawa State, recorded in this study was 5.0%, which was lower than the 12.6 and 12.14% recorded by Umaru et al (2013) and Usman and Mustapha (2016), in studies conducted to determine the occurrence of S. aureus in fresh and fermented milk in Kaduna and Zaria, respectively. It was also lower than the 8.7% prevalence recorded by Okpo et al 2016 2015, and Chaalal et al (2016). Higher occurrence of the organism in dairy products in Kenya, Turkey, Bangladesh, and Algeria respectively.…”

“…In all clinical isolates, the resistance rate of S. aureus to gentamicin was 7.7% which was similar (7.0%) with a study performed in Algeria [ 25 ]. In Algeria, no resistance to gentamicin was found in staphylococci in milk [ 54 , 55 ]. One S. aureus isolate exhibiting phenotypic resistance to gentamicin harboured the aac A- aph D gene which is in contrast to previous studies [ 16 , 33 ].…”
