Antioxidant Action andIn VivoAnti-Inflammatory and Antinociceptive Activities ofMyrciaria floribundaFruit Peels: Possible Involvement of Opioidergic System

Abstract: This work evaluated the antioxidant properties and in vivo antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of extracts obtained from fruit peels of Myrciaria floribunda (H. West ex Willd.) O. Berg (Myrtaceae). This plant is popularly known in Brazil as Cambuí or camboim. Different extracts were submitted to comparative analysis to determine the content of selected phytochemical classes (levels of total phenols, flavonoids, and monomeric anthocyanins) and the in vitro antioxidant potentials. The extract with high… Show more

“…Myrciaria floribunda (H. West ex Willd.) O. Berg is known elsewhere as rumberry, camboim, and cambuí, growing naturally in the Central and South American continents [ 21 , 22 ]. Their fruits contain rutin, phenolic acids, and β-cryptoxanthin (pro-vitamin A) and are consumed in nature as jelly and in distilled beverages [ 23 ].…”

“…Antioxidants are substances that prevent various pathologic changes in living cell by protecting oxidation of its major constituents (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and DNA) (Moualek et al, 2016). Phenolic compounds are considered the most antioxidant metabolites from plants; and these compounds have the ability to give hydrogen or electrons Da Silva Santos et al, 2020).…”

“…Brazilian Journal of Development, Curitiba, v.8, n.2, p. 11975-11987 feb. 2022. Santos et al, (2020) reported the presence of 62.28 (mg GAE/g) of total phenolic compound in the cambuí extract obtained using water under room pressure. However, the study reported above did not find flavonoid contents (mg QE/g) in the cambuí aqueous extract (Santos et al, 2020).…”

“…Santos et al, (2020) reported the presence of 62.28 (mg GAE/g) of total phenolic compound in the cambuí extract obtained using water under room pressure. However, the study reported above did not find flavonoid contents (mg QE/g) in the cambuí aqueous extract (Santos et al, 2020). Hence, we can suggest that the use of water under high pressure in the first step of extraction provides the obtaining relevant amount of flavonoid contents and other phenolic compounds, as can be seen in table 1.…”
