Antioxidant Activities, Phenolic and Flavonoid Contents of Methanolic Extract of Stelechocarpus burahol Fruit and its Fractions

Abstract: Kepel or Stelechocarpus burahol is an exotic fruit originating from Java, Indonesia. This research was intended to evaluate the antioxidant activities of extracts and fractions of kepel fruit pulp (KFP) based on radical scavenging capability towards 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzo thiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) and 2,2′-diphenildiphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil radical (DPPH). In this study, the radical scavenging activities were also correlated with total phenolics and flavonoid contents. Among the ev… Show more

“…In general, plants having phenolics and flavonoids are capable of scavenging free oxidative radicals because these molecules are able to donate hydrogen atom. 20 Herlina et al 21 capillus-veneris L. 22 These bioactive molecules have drawn more attention because of their relation to prevent cancer, skin rashes, inflammation, and coronary heart disorders. 23 In addition to free radicals scavenging analysis, cytotoxic activity of methanolic extract of A. capillus-veneris L. and its different soluble fractions were performed against HELA cell line.…”

“…Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan oleh (Herlina et al, 2018) (Shafirany et al, 2021; dengan konsentrasi masing-masing sebesar 73.09% dan 30,99%. Pada penelitian lain disebutkan bahwa, kandungan flavonoid yang terkandung dalam daun Kepel memiliki potensi terhadap antibakteri (Indriani et al, 2017;.…”

“…However, plants are an important source for the development of new chemotherapeutic including antioxidant agents, which can be protect cell constituents against oxidative damage and withstand the risk of various diseases associated with oxidative stress (Herlina et al, 2018). Furthermore, phenolic compounds are known for their potential antioxidant to eliminate toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as flavonoids, which were characterized by a strong potential protection against UV radiations (Hopkins, 2003;Macheix et al, 2005).…”
