“…It was reported earlier that after 5 days of storage at 3 °C, most of the rabbit carcasses had APC of about 7 log CFU/g and reached 8 logs CFU/g after 6 to 8 days [ 59 ]. In addition to strong antioxidant criteria due to the high content of polyphenols and flavonoids [ 43 , 60 ], this finding suggests that feeding fennel oil can potentially substitute antibiotics to improve the shelf-life of rabbit meat. These properties have also been widely reported for many other essential oils and their constituents [ 61 ].…”

“…Due to lipid peroxidation brought on by DNA, protein, and cell phospholipid membrane damage, heat stress may increase the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) [4][5][6][7]. Rabbits are becoming more and more important in the global meat industry, but hot weather conditions have an impact on an animal's productive physiology and the quality of its meat, and animal mortality rises [8][9][10][11]. Since growing rabbits are particularly sensitive to high temperatures and suffer from heat anxiety during the summer, intensive rabbit production is impacted by environmental and nutritional factors [12,13].…”

“…Fed a base diet with varying doses (ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 mg/kg) of whole-pomegranate extract for 60 days in the summer to the rabbits. LPO, AST, ALT, TC, TG, and WBC, which were negatively impacted by summer heat stress in the control rabbits, were dramatically reduced by the extract [ 46 ]. The presence of many phenolic components (ellagic acid, punicalin, and punicalagin) rather than a single pure polyphenol accounts for the pomegranate’s superior antioxidant action [ 47 ].…”
