Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic properties of olive leaf extract protect against L-arginine induced chronic pancreatitis in the adult male albino rat

Abstract: Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is an inflammatory disease affects the pancreas with upcoming fibrosis and notable parenchymal destruction. CP poses a high risk for pancreatic carcinoma. The present study aimed to investigate, for the first time up to our knowledge, the effect of olive leaf extract on L-arginine induced CP with referral to some of its underlying mechanisms. Forty adult male albino rats were divided equally into four groups; control, olive leaf extract treated (200 mg/ kg orally once daily), CP group… Show more

“…A large increase in MDA levels and decrease in SOD levels were observed. After olive leaf extract treatment, the above parameters significantly improved, pancreatic degenerative changes were reduced, and TGF- β and IL-6 levels also decreased ( 98 ). There have been few reports of olive leaf extract improving CP, and further experiments are needed to confirm this.…”

“…Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a heterogeneous group of diseases manifested by long-lasting pancreatic inflammation resulting in fibrosis, gradual loss of pancreatic function [ 11 ] and eminent parenchymal destruction. Also an increased risk of pancreatic cancer exists in CP [ 12 ].…”
