Antioxidant Thermogelling Formulation for Burn Wound Healing

Abstract: Burns are the most common and devastating form of wounds and are usually accompanied by abnormal inflammation, inadequate extracellular matrix production, reduced angiogenesis, and lack of growth factor stimulation, which can significantly delay wound healing and lead to complications. Pearl powder, a traditional Chinese medicine, has been used to treat wound healing. In the present study, we found that supercritical CO 2 extracted pearl peptides in the size range of " > 10kd" have great potential to promote w… Show more

“…Liu et al. designed pearl peptide–loaded antioxidant hydrogels utilizing selenium‐containing block‐functionalized polyethylene glycol (PEG)/Polypropylene glycol polymers 77 . The pearl peptide hydrogels improved skin fibroblast viability, reduced oxidative stress of cells and promoted angiogenesis in wound healing.…”

“…As an important type of polymers, hydrogels have also been widely investigated for various applications. [142][143][144][145] Sotomayor et al [146] investigated injection moulded blends of HDPE and paraffin wax, while Beginn U. et al [147] fabricated frozen gels using Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) and Crystallisable Paraffin through melt extrusion and injection moulding. Their findings show that the blends demonstrate excellent latent heat capacities, and no leakage of paraffin was noticed, which may render them superior to microencapsulated PCMs.…”

“…The application of a functional wound dressing has always been regarded as the critical part of the wound healing process. Due to their robust mechanical properties, high water absorption capacity, three‐dimensional porous structure that mimics the extracellular matrix, as well as the convenience to encapsulate different kinds of therapeutics, hydrogels have been a popular choice for wound dressings in recent years [74–77] . In particular, injectable hydrogel wound dressings with inherent self‐healing capabilities have sparked special research interests, owing to their flexible adaptability in surgical operations to fit irregular wound sites without gel fragmentation.…”

[74][75][76][77] In particular, injectable hydrogel wound dressings with inherent self-healing capabilities have sparked special research interests, owing to their flexible adaptability in surgical operations to fit irregular wound sites without gel fragmentation. When applied on skin wounds that are exposed to constant human motions, they may also maintain a greater performance over a longer prolonged life period.…”
