Antioxidative Activities of Medicinal Plants from TCM

Abstract: As a natural antioxidant resource, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been paid much more attentions than before. The studies on its antioxidative activity have also increased dramatically in recent years. Abundant studies on TCM show that some TCM can increase body's activity of antioxidant enzymes, enhance body's ability of scavenging free radicals and decrease the generation of lipid peroxide (LPO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the body etc. The action mechanism of TCM is closely related to its active co… Show more

“…Therefore, the Yangjing capsule extract can exert a protective effect on Leydig cells in vitro . It is reported that polysaccharides exert antiapoptosis and antioxidative activities [28, 29]. It has been demonstrated that Rhizoma Polygonati Sibirici polysaccharides were able to prevent apoptosis in hypoxic neurons through upregulation of Bcl-2 protein expression, downregulation of Bax-2 protein expression and raising the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax [30].…”

“…Many chronic degenerative diseases and cancer have a direct or indirect relationship with the damaging effects of free radicals (Bielli, Scioli, Mazzaglia, Doldo, & Orlandi, 2015). Medicines possessing antioxidant activity can reduce oxidative stress injury caused by free radicals (Hong, Hu, Liu, Zhou, & Zhao, 2014;Liu & Jiang, 2012;Zhou, Tang, Keep, Ma, & Xiang, 2014). Many components of S. miltiorrhiza Bge.…”

“…The studies on antioxidant activity of plants have increased dramatically in recent years, because they are identified as natural antioxidant resources by traditional Chinese medicine [1]. Medicinal plants have usually been applied to control the blood glucose or reduce the diabetic complications; they have the potential to increase the life span and quality of life in these patients [2].…”
