Antiprotozoal and Anthelmintic Activity of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Abstract: : Nanomaterials represent a wide alternative for the treatment of several diseases that affect both human and animal health. The use of these materials mainly involves trying to solve the problem of resistance that pathogenic organisms acquire to conventional drugs. A well-studied example that represents a potential component for biomedical applications is the use of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs). Its antimicrobial function is related, especially the ability to generate/induce ROS that affects the homeo… Show more

“…Different metal oxide NPs have been investigated for determination of their potential against various parasites and researchers have obtained good findings (do Carmo Neto et al 2022 ; Franco et al 2016 ). In a recent study by Faisal et al ( 2021 ), CuO, NiO, and Cu/Ni hybrid NPs were greenly obtained by using Curcuma longa roots extract.…”

“…Metal oxide NPs, such as ZnO, induce the production of reactive oxygen species [ 5 ], which are important for anthelmintic and antiprotozoal activities, as seen in example [ 6 ]. In an attempt to potentiate the varied actions of ZnO NPs, studies have associated these NPs with silver (Ag) or silver oxide (AgO) NPs [ 7 , 8 ].…”
