Antisense lncRNA CHROMR is linked to glioma patient survival

Abstract: Background: Natural non-coding antisense transcripts (ncNATs) are long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) transcribed from the opposite strand of a separate protein coding or non-coding gene. As such, ncNATs can increase overlapping mRNA (and the coded protein) levels by stabilizing mRNA, absorbing inhibitory miRNAs and protecting the mRNA from degradation, or conversely decrease mRNA (or protein) levels by directing the mRNA towards degradation or inhibiting protein translation. Recently, growing numbers of ncNATs were… Show more

“…Four drivers (two in green and two in pink module) were found in all cell lines and presented congruent expression change between “WWOX” and “Vec” cellular variants; these were PRKRA and PNMA2 (green module) or GPS1 and ARF3 (pink module). The high expression ratio of the Protein activator of interferon-induced protein kinase ( PRKRA ) and its presumably oncogenic antisense counterpart CHROMR was linked to favorable survival of GBM patients ( Sirvinskas et al, 2023 ). PNMA family member 2 ( PNMA2 ) was downregulated in pediatric GBM cell line SJ-GBM2 following irradiation and might positively regulate the apoptotic process ( Alhajala et al, 2018 ).…”

“…Širvinskas et al [32], through RNA sequencing of postoperative tumor samples and normal brain tissues from 26 glioma patients, found significantly upregulated expression of the antisense lncRNA CHROMR in glioma tissues, with higher expression correlating to lower patient survival rates. Zhao et al [33], using the GSE4290 dataset obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus, selected differentially expressed genes and lncRNAs.…”
