Antistatic modification of synthetic fibers by blend‐spinning of polymers containing zwitterionic antistatic modifiers and their copolymers

Abstract: New poly(oxyethy1ene) derivatives (S-betaine) having a zwitterionic structure of ammoniumsulfonate were prepared by the reaction of oxirane (EO) adducts of stearylamine with sodium chloromethanesulfonate and examined as blending antistatic modifiers for poly(ethy1ene terephthalate) (PET) and polyamide 6 (PA6) fibers. The blend PET and PA6 fibers containing 2.0 wt.-Yo of S-betaine exhibited a decreased halflife time of leakage of electrostatic charge (t,,2) and a surface area resistivity (RJ compared with those… Show more

“…Attempts have been made to compared to the original PE. As is evident from the strong O 1s band and the high binding energy impart hygroscopic properties to polymers for the antistatic modification by Sano et al [16][17][18] The an-of the C 1s components, which is due to oxidized carbon groups, a large amount of oxygen atoms tistatic property of PolyNIPAAm-g-PE was improved below 30ЊC, as shown in Figure 8. How-was introduced to the PE surface by the corona discharge method.…”

“…After charging the fabric with 10 kV for 30 s, the period of time in which the charge potential attenuated to 1/2 of the initial potential (T 1/2 ) was observed at 20 8C under 65% RH. Throughout the measurements, the fabric-fixed turntable was rotated at 1000 rpm [18][19][20][21] . In this study, the charge potential of some fabrics did not attenuate to 1/2 of the initial potential even after 2 min had passed, and therefore the percentage of leakage after 5 min (LEC) was calculated instead.…”

“…After charging the film with 10 kV for 30 s, the period of time in which the charge potential attenuated to $\hbox{$1\over 2$}$ of the initial potential was observed at 20°C under 65% RH. Throughout the measurements, the film‐fixed turntable was rotated at 1000 rpm 14–20. In this study, as the charge potential did not attenuate to $\hbox{$1\over 2$}$ of the initial potential even after 120 s, the percentage of leakage after 5 min was calculated by estimating the electrostatic propensity.…”
