“…The subject of the present plate 1075 is a very robust woody climber, with masses of sweetly scented flowers, which change colour as they age, from creamy‐white at first opening to yellow, then orange and finally dying red (Figure 1). It was named by the Kew‐based botanist William Botting Hemsley from herbarium specimens collected by Augustine Henry ( A. Henry 8937 ) somewhere in Sichuan (specimens at K & P); in 1890 near Tachienlu (now Kangding) by A. E. Pratt (see also Kilpatrick & Harmer, 2022), and by Henry again, ( A. Henry 10,721 ) in Yunnan near Mengtze (now Mengzi), then an important entry point into southern China from Vietnam. Henry's specimens under 10,721 , 10721A and 10721B are in several herbaria in addition to Kew, and we have here chosen 10721B as the holotype (see POWO, 2023).…”
