Anurans in a forest remnant in the transition zone between cerrado and atlantic rain forest domains in southeastern Brazil

Abstract: This study presents the species richness, temporal distribution and reproductive activity of anurans from the uaimií State Forest (Floresta Estadual do uaimií -FLOE uaimií), situated in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero region, municipality of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. Field activities were performed monthly from September 2009 to August 2010. We recorded 36 anurans species, distributed in 10 families. The greatest richness of the sampled sites corresponds to a permanent rivulet in a secondary forest. T… Show more

“…Likewise, other populations considered as Scinax aff. perereca have been found in the region (Canelas & Bertoluci 2007, Moura et al 2012, Pirani et al 2012, Pimenta et al 2014, Neves et al 2017b). Nonetheless, the taxon still remains without a precise identification to the species level.…”

“…Our results corroborate studies in which environmental heterogeneity partly explains variations in the richness and composition of the anuran communities (Parris 2004, Vasconcelos and Rossa-Feres 2005, Oda et al 2016. In fact, the number of microhabitats used by males as vocalization sites tends to influence the anurans species richness and composition (Afonso and eterovick 2007, Vasconcelos and Rossa-Feres 2008, Pirani et al 2013.…”

“…Of the 34 species in the Leptodactylus fuscus group (Silva et al., 2020), four are endemic to the campo rupestre, with three of them restricted to single mountain ranges (Carvalho et al., 2013): Leptodactylus camaquara (EMR), Leptodactylus oreomantis (Chapada Diamantina) and Leptodactylus tapiti (Veadeiros Plateau). The fourth species ( Leptodactylus cunicularius ) is in the EMR (Pirani et al., 2013; São‐Pedro & Feio, 2011; Sazima & Bokermann, 1978) as well as the Mantiqueira Mountain Range (reported hereinafter as Mantiqueira Range), including Poços de Caldas and Canastra plateaus, and surroundings (Cardoso & Haddad, 1992; Cruz et al., 2009; Giaretta et al., 2008; Haddad et al., 1988). In addition to the above‐mentioned records, many specimens collected by us or present in herpetological collections have been tentatively assigned to L. cunicularius based on morphological and acoustic data.…”
