Anurans of the sandy coastal plains of the Lagamar Paulista, state of São Paulo, Brazil

Abstract: Insular habitats are considered ideal for biogeographic studies, as they represent almost closed habitats with known formation timelines. Although São Paulo state in Brazil has a large number of continental and oceanic islands, few studies have examined the composition of the fauna in each locality. These studies are crucial to determine the community structure and to make biogeographic and phylogenetic inferences. From

“…This is an expected result and reflects the pattern observed in several studies in restingas (e.g. Bastazini et al 2007;Colombo et al 2008;Zina et al 2012). The diversity of reproductive modes of the species in the family Hylidae (Haddad and Prado 2005) combined with the ecological and morphological diversity of its species (Wells 2007) are probably some of the factors responsible for the abundance of this family.…”

“…The family Hylidae showed the highest species richness in the Restinga of the Conde municipality, which coincides with the pattern already reported for the Restinga of the Mata de São João municipality (Juncá 2006, Bastazini et al 2007) and for other Restingas in Brazil (e.g., Rocha et al 2008, Narvaes et al 2009, Zina et al 2012, Oliveira & Rocha 2015. In the wetland zones, the dominant species was Scinax fuscomarginatus (Table 3).…”

“…Amphibian assemblages have been studied widely in Brazil (Conte and Rossa-Feres 2007;Garey and Hartmann 2012;Zina et al 2012;Oliveira et al 2013), where they provide important data for the understanding of the ecological relationships among species in time (Santos-Pereira et al 2011) and space (Juncá 2006;Ferreira et al 2012). Species lists (Wachlevski and Rocha 2010;Telles et al 2012;Affonso et al 2014;AlmeidaGomes et al 2014;Crivellari et al 2014) typically constitute an essential first step for the monitoring of the fauna of specific habitats and the assessment of the status of species and their populations, which can be used to guide conservation decision-making (Pimenta et al 2005), especially considering that most strategies are based on local species richness (Rocha et al 2003) and on the extinction risk of different species (Miller et al 2006).…”
