Aportaciones al conocimiento de los mosquitos (<i>Diptera, Culicidae</i>) de alta montaña presentes en la Península Ibérica

Abstract: Several larval samplings of mosquitoes (Diptera, Culicidae) in different mountainous regions of the peninsular Spain were carried out. A total of 2796 specimens belonging to 18 species were collected, nevertheless the 72.5 % of these finds includes only three of them (Cx. hortensis hortensis, Cx. pipiens and Cs. longiareolata). The adaptation capacity to a varied typology of water bodies together with the marked multivoltinism that characterizes their biotic cycles are postulated as two of the principal reason… Show more

“…This hypothesis is also supported by the data related to the biodiversity in urban, rural and wild environments. In this respect it is well known that C. hortensis is a zoophile (mainly feeding on batrachians and reptiles) and orophilic species, which prefers to colonize freshwater environments and can complete its development in very varied breeding sites (Schaffner et al 2001, Bueno Marí et al 2009a. In contrast, O. caspius is a species characterized by a high anthropophilic behavior, very common in coastal areas of the Paleartic Region and highly associated with temporary puddles of brackish waters (Rioux 1958, Schaffner et al 2001.…”

“…Bueno-Marí et al [ 7 ] sampled areas with favourable conditions for the species in which they did not detect its presence. However, considering that this species is univoltine, and that adults emerge between April and May [ 10 , 16 , 21 , 27 ], the timing of sampling should be considered to detect the species.…”

“…After the introduction and establishment or permanent populations of aedes albopictus and aedes japonicus [ 5 , 6 ], sixty-five species of mosquitoes can be found in Spain [ 7 ]. Their distribution is variable depending on adaptability and environmental conditions, although there are some species that are widely distributed throughout almost the entire Iberian Peninsula (IP), such as Ochlerotatus caspius , Culex theileri, Cx.…”
