Apparent digestibilities of common feedstuffs for bluegillLepomis macrochirusand largemouth bassMicropterus salmoidesusing individual test ingredients

Abstract: Apparent digestibility of dry matter and energy, and availability of amino acids from blood meal (BM), fish meal (FM), meat and bone meal (MBM), poultry byproduct meal (PBM), soybean meal (SBM), corn, wheat and yellow grease (YG) were determined for bluegill Lepomis macrochirus (mean weight, 57 g), and likewise, but not for BM or wheat, for largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides (mean weight, 30 g). To avoid nutrient interaction from a reference diet, diets containing 98.5% (985 g kg )1 ) of test ingredients we… Show more

“…Similar to another study where acrylic tubes were used to force‐feed Largemouth Bass (Masagounder et al. ), no adverse effects (e.g., increased stress‐related behavior) of force‐feeding SPLs were evident during a postingestion monitoring period. No SPL was immediately regurgitated.…”

“…In the study of Zhou and Yue (2012), evaluating the digestibility of meat and bone meal for tilapia, they found nutritional balances of dry matter and higher P and crude protein values, crude fat and gross energy lower than those found in this work for the BMs. For carnivorous species feeding habits, there is the preference for the use of animal protein, were found in the literature higher values of ADc for crude protein compared to tilapia (74.60%) for Sciaenops ocellatus (McGoogan et al, 1996), 81.8% for Lepomis macrochirus (Masagounder et al, 2009), 90% for rockfish Sebastes schlegeli (Lee, 2002) and 87.36% for Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum (Silva et al, 2013).…”

“…Our ADC of amino acids in blood meal were lower than those reported by Noreen and Salim (2008) for the carp Labeo rohita, which on average were 12% higher than those found in shrimp. Likewise, the amino acid ADC obtained by Masagounder et al (2009) for the bluegill Lepomis macrochirus was 25% higher. Gaylord et al (2008) evaluated the apparent digestibility of essential amino acids in a blood meal for juvenile hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops × M. saxatilis) and obtained similar values to those found in the 2% para la harina avícola 1 y 1% para la harina avícola 2.…”
