Appetite and energy intake following a bout of circuit resistance training in chronic hemiparetic stroke patients: a preliminary randomized controlled trial

Abstract: The main aim of this study was to investigate the effects of circuit resistance training (CRT) on post-exercise appetite and energy intake in chronic hemiparetic stroke patients. A secondary aim was to evaluate the reproducibility of these effects. Methods:Seven participants met the eligibility criteria and, in a randomized order, participated in a nonexercise control session (CTL) and two bouts of CRT. The CRT involved 10 exercises with 3 sets of 15repetition maximum per exercise, performed using a vertical l… Show more

“…In the present study, the weight and MBF decreased and energy expenditure increased signi cantly in the training groups, which may explain the decrease in ASP level in these groups. One of the mechanisms involved in reducing weight and fat mass after regular exercise is reducing appetite and calorie intake [13,14,30]. In the present study, after eight weeks of CRT, appetite and calorie intake decreased and energy expenditure increased.…”

“…Recent studies show that resistance training can affect energy expenditure, appetite signals, and fat metabolism and help in reducing the percent body fat [13][14][15]. Circuit resistance training (CRT), as a new training method, apparently has the effectiveness of endurance and resistance training at the same time [14,15]. Resistance training has been shown to signi cantly increase in the level of ASP in women [16].…”
