Applicability of Metals as Liner Materials for Ammonoacidic Crystal Growth

Abstract: The ammonoacidic crystal growth allows industrial production of bulk semiconductor materials like gallium nitride as a widely known material for applications in photonics. A limitation of this process is strong corrosion of the growth autoclave which consequently leads to high impurity density in grown crystals, even if the autoclave is partly lined with state-of-the-art systems. Innovative metallic liner technologies are evaluated which allow a complete lining of the autoclave and peripheral parts. In this wa… Show more

“…[155] Another study investigated the behavioro fN H 4 X( X= F, Cl, I) solutions on diverse metallic samples. [160] Severalm aterials were found to be applicable as liner materials, such as molybdenum for pure supercritical NH 3 , NaNH 2 ,N H 4 F, and NH 4 Cl solutions, as well as silver for supercritical NH 3 ,N aNH 2 ,a nd NH 4 Fs olutions. Non-hermetically sealed capsules made of silver or molybdenum were probed for ammonobasic growth of GaN, resultingi nn early transition metal free (< 1 10 17 cm À3 )c rystals.…”

“…Still, an interaction is indicated by the transformation of bulk copper into a porous material or even a semifluidic state well below the melting point of copper. [76,77] The origin of this behavior was speculated to be related to the intermediate formation of copper nitride Cu 3 N, which is metastable under these conditions and thus decomposes.…”
