Application of a novel heterogeneous sulfite activation with copper(i) sulfide (Cu2S) for efficient iohexol abatement

Abstract: The Cu2S/sulfite process achieves efficient iohexol abatement, in which reductive sulfur species prominently accelerate Cu species' redox cycle and radical generation.

“…S7 †) XPS spectra for Cu 2−x S also conform with the literature. [46][47][48] Particularly, in the XPS survey spectrum, it is noted that Cu Auger peaks have appeared. Furthermore, the Cu LMM AES spectra show peak value of 568.7 eV for Cu 2−x S and 568.4 eV for CuS (Fig.…”

“…Compared to CuS, the sulfide peaks at 161.48 eV and 161.88 eV are enhanced for Cu 2−x S; meanwhile, the disulfide peaks at 162.48 eV and 163.08 eV are weakened for Cu 2−x S. The disulfide/ sulfide ratio as calculated from the integration of the peak areas drops from 2 for CuS to 1.25 for Cu 2−x S, agreed well with the literature. 46,47 The Cu 2p (Fig. S6 †) and survey (Fig.…”

“…Despite the generation of SO3 •− or other sulfate radicals by nanoparticles or transition metals is well studied in the literature (Ranguelova et al 2012, Wu et al 2018, Li et al 2020, Wu et al 2021, Wu et al 2022, the generation of sulfate radical active species through a biodegradable organometallic catalyst has not been investigated. This pathway of active…”
