“…As the concentration of biopolymer increased, the drug release was significantly reduced due to increased polymer interaction on the surface of particles. However, the release kinetics depends not only on the degradation rate of particles, but also on swelling and erosion of polymer . Moreover, destabilization of chitosan‐ and pectin‐modified particles occurred when too much or little polymer was adding due to depletion flocculation and bridging flocculation and resulted in rapid sedimentation.…”

“…Formulation, characterization, and specific performance of various gel and hydrogel systems are very important topics of investigation in various fields of research. In this sense, gels can be used as stabilizers of various systems, slow down dynamics of the systems, , can facilitate sustained or controlled release of various functional molecules, lead to some other specifically desired properties of the systems, or be simply used to yield the final product solid-like and in this way facilitate its handling. In this way, such gels are of special importance in the field of pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food applications. Our interest lies in the polysaccharides methylcellulose (MC; E461) and κ-carrageenan (KC; E407) that are well-known additives used for gelation in various nutrition and other products.…”

“…Interestingly, a faster liposome release was observed when using washed gel beads instead of fully-cured beads, showing a proportional relationship between the release and the erosion of the gel at high liposome concentrations. 126 These results suggested that the liposomes were not homogeneous distributed through the gel beads but rather concentrated in the central part. Such dependence between drug release and the erosion of the alginate gel matrix was also observed by Rongqing and co-workers.…”
