Application of an ultrasonic field for the removal of selected pesticides

Abstract: Abstract. The work detailed in this study investigated the efficiency of oxidizing technologie for the removal of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) from aqueous solutions. OCPs constitute an important group of environmental pollutants also known to be endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs). The particular focus has been on a process achieving oxidation through the use of ultrasonic waves, with the impacts of pH, time on TOC and pesticide removal all being tested. Results confirm effective TOC decomposition using… Show more

“…However, gaseous compounds such as oxides of carbon and nitrogen, methane, ethene, ammonia, compounds of sulphur, etc., cannot be purified effectively by activated carbon alone [38]. Alternative, competing methods seeking to achieve the limitation or complete elimination of odour-generating processes along networks transferring wastewaters may make use of chemical reagents and so-called advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) [38][39][40][41][42][43].…”

“…Since consumers are becoming more sensitive to the presence of pesticide residue in fresh food and agricultural commodities and sincepesticides must be applied to crops within particular dose limits and laws, numerous pesticide removal technologies to eliminate pesticide residue from fresh agricultural products have been investigated in recent decades [13] , [14] , [15] . Pesticides can be eliminated by a variety of methods, but processes to get them out of aqueous solutions emphasis on sorption, coagulation, membrane processes, degradation by sophisticated oxidation techniques, and biodegradation [16] . Surfactants, ozone (O 3 ), ionic solvents, chlorine treatment and hydrostatic pressure have all been employed to reduce pesticide residue [17] , [18] .…”
