Application of Complex Network Principles to Key Station Identification in Railway Network Efficiency Analysis

Abstract: Network efficiency analysis becomes important in railways in order to contribute towards improving the safety and capacity of the rail network, making rail travel more attractive for passengers, and improving industry practice and informing policy development. However, a physical railway network structure is a complicated system, and the operation, maintenance, and management of such a network is a difficult task which may be affected by many influential factors. By using efficiency analysis technology for a r… Show more

“…Following this, rail journeys from the city centre to the mean centre of each statistical ward were performed. This used information on maximum rail network speeds, ticket prices and overall quickest route of travel through Liverpool to calculate the most efficient possible journey between the two points (An et al, 2019). This was performed on 26 out of the 30 wards, with the four exceptions including Everton, Princess Park, Riverside and Central as these areas are equal distance from the city centre and the nearest rail station.…”

“…In recent years, the analysis methods of complex dynamical networks have played an important role in the big data transmissions, information processing and power grid (Baran & Rzysko, 2020;Bonello et al, 2020;Chen et al, 2019;Ding et al, 2019;Hernandez-torres et al, 2020;Wang et al, 2019). Recently, the networked control technology brings many conveniences to industrial development and technological advancements (Chen et al, 2020;Hu et al, 2017;Zou, Wang, Dong et al, 2020;.…”

“…Some studies consider various indicators comprehensively, but the effectiveness needs to be improved. In [39], the average weighted method (AWM) has been used to integrate different indicators, but it is not preferable because the influence of different indicators on the importance of nodes is obviously different in most cases. Besides, the analytic hierarchy process has been used such as the Delphi method [40], but this method depends heavily on the designer experience.…”
