“…Fenton and Fenton-like reactions, exhibiting excellent characteristics of the low energy input and strong oxidation capability, have captured tremendous attentions in antibiotics removal [4] , [5] . Nevertheless, the strict and narrow pH range (pH 2.8–3.5), the loss of the catalyst and Fenton iron sludge hamper its further application to some extent.…”

“…In order to improve the applicability of the traditional Fenton process, solid iron-based catalysts such as Fe 3 O 4 , FeOCl, MnFe 2 O 4 and α-Fe 2 O 3 have been developed in heterogeneous Fenton-like processes [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] . Among various solid catalysts, Fe-MOFs, containing iron ions or clusters and organic ligands, show great potential in heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction [5] , [10] . Fe is non-toxic and abundant in crustal minerals.…”

“…Quantum dots nanoparticles in MOFs have been extensively studied as potential photocatalysts, such as the CdS/UiO-66-NH 2 composite for the selective visible light oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde with molecular oxygen as an oxidant [ 212 ], CdS@MIL-101(Fe) nanocomposites for the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde using visible light under mild conditions [ 213 ], and CdS/Zn-MOF composites for the photocatalytic water splitting under visible light irradiation [ 214 ]. MOFs and their composites, especially the environmentally-friendly Fe-MOFs, are used in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) as photocatalysts for the removal of organic compounds from water and wastewater by oxidation through reactions with hydroxyl radicals [ 215 , 216 ]. For example, Fe-MOFs with 1,4-piperazinediylbis(methylene) phosphonic acid, STA-12(Fe), used for H 2 O 2 activation under natural sun-light irradiation, displays highly efficient photocatalytic decomposition of organic dyes from aqueous solution, and demonstrates excellent reusability, suggesting potential application in water depollution [ 217 ].…”

“…Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are organic-inorganic hybrid materials formed by self-assembly of metal ions (or clusters) and organic ligands through coordination bonds, which have been applied in gas separation, gas storage, drug delivery, and even catalysis in recent years. [15][16][17] What more noteworthy is that MOFs can be used as a sacricial template or precursor for the preparation of other porous materials (metal oxide, metal oxide/metal oxide, and so forth) via thermal decomposition because of their unique structure and textural property. 18,19 In general, the derived metal oxides maintain the original morphology of MOFs, and own a large specic surface area and pore volume.…”
