Application of Grey Relational Analysis to Decision-Making during Product Development

Abstract: A multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) approach was proposed in this study as a prediction method that differs from the conventional production and design methods for a product. When a client has different dimensional requirements, this approach can quickly provide a company with design decisions for each product. The production factors of a product are usually complex and difficult to predict. A focus group that comprises seven professional product designers was formed in this study to determine those exact… Show more

“…Lo (2016) recommended using the extension method to decompose product components and using the superiority evaluation method to select the target product. Hsiao et al (2017) proposed using the grey relational analysis to implement the product decision-making systems. Eric (1997) proposed that the concept mapping can be used to generate ideas, design complicated structures, convey complicated thinking, integrate new and old knowledge, evaluate or diagnose errors in learning.…”

“…They also recommended introducing the usability risk level evaluation during the earlier stage of conceptual designs since a design at the earlier stage will affect the usability interface. From the aspect of product designs, Chou (2016), Hsiao et al (2017), and Ko et al (2017) proposed decomposing and analyzing a product by perceptions and practical operations in order to determine the optimal solution.…”

“…The personality traits of participants from different industries are analyzed so that the results can serve as a good reference for designers when designing new office chairs that meet users' preferences and the expected chair style and functions. From the aspect of product designs, Chou [3], Hsiao et al [4], and Ko et al [5] proposed different approaches for deconstructing a product by perception and real operations in order to determine the optimal design solution.…”
