Application of Indocyanine Green Videoangiography in Aneurysm Surgery: Evidence, Techniques, Practical Tips

Abstract: Establishing blood vessel patency in neurovascular surgery is an essential component in treating cerebrovascular disorders. Given the difficulty in confirming complete obliteration of the aneurysm sac, ICG videoangiography has emerged as an intraoperative tool that provides neurosurgeons immediate feedback on the status of vessel flow, allowing for surgical modifications to be made without delay. ICG initially emerged as a tool for assessing hepatic, cardiac, and retinovascular function. It is an inert compoun… Show more

“…The PA signal increased after ICG injection and subsequently decreased over time [34]. The PA signal returned to near the baseline level, as expected as ICG mainly binds to plasma proteins and does not extravasate in healthy rats with an intact blood-brain barrier [35]. A video of the changes in the PA signal is included (Video S6) to visualize the ICG brain pharmacokinetics.…”

“…Indocyanine green (ICG) intraoperative cerebral videoangiography has been used (Bruneau et al, 2013 ; Norat et al, 2019 ). In addition, ICG infrared videoangiography is a frequently used technique to assess vascular patency and occlusions during cerebrovascular surgeries (Norat et al, 2019 ).…”

“…ICG FA is now widely used for the intraoperative assessment of vessel patency. 8 Satisfactory clipping was confirmed by ICG FA again to ensure complete clipping of the aneurysmal neck and patency of the LA.…”
