Application of Multi-criteria Approach for Sustainability Assessment of Manufacturing Processes

Abstract: The paper is to present a multi-criteria approach for sustainability assessment of manufacturing processes, which can be applied to carry out the sustainability assessment of manufacturing processes requiring less detailed data, time, and expert knowledge, but still providing a company-level analysis. The analytical hierarchy process method is used to determine ranking of simple and relevant activity areas for manufacturing processes in terms of sustainability objectives. Analytical technique is also employed … Show more

“…The concepts of sustainability assessment have been applied by some studies, such as those in [23][24][25][26], while the concept of a sustainable development model was designed by Hunter [27]. The multi-criteria approach to sustainability assessment has been used by other authors, such as Kluczek [28,29].…”

“…The basis of this model is represented by three basic attributes of sustainability: economic, social, and ecological criteria. A similar approach to those three basic criteria was used by other researchers [28,51,52]. The expert group used those three criteria as the basis for model development and adapted it to the observed case.…”

“…Decision makers would decide to formalize and to implement technology assessment to accomplish the right selection among proposed technologies, or to work randomly without any specific methodology (Bakouros, 2010). Therefore, combined MCDA methodologies should determine overall preferences among alternative technology options according to the different criteria being difficult while comparing with one another (Kluczek, 2016).…”

“…This intricacy has been dealt with giving weights for characteristics, which are determined on the basis of fuzzy expert opinions and then to "establish priorities". Due to expert's statements are uncertain in their nature, human thoughts are fuzzy and the problem being analyzed is complex, then it is proposed to apply successfully fuzzy logic to help handle imprecision in multi-criteria decision making processes (Varela and Ribeiro, 2003;Kluczek, 2016). Hence, this study presented seeks to evaluate and select the best clean energy technology.…”

“…Such needs go against the multi-floor manufacturing technology. Necessary complement to the cluster network (coexistence of several clusters in large urban areas) is a tailored transport and logistics system (Azapagic & Perdan, 2000;Sikdar, 2003;Sala et al, 2015;Kluczek, 2016). Figure 1 shows the network of industrial clusters were multi-floor manufacturing companies are located and dedicated logistics system.…”
