Application of NiO-Al2O3 aerogels to the CO2-reforming of CH4

Abstract: Ni(NO 3 ) 2 and Ni(CH 3 COO) 2 were dispersed onAlOOH aerogels by supercritical drying and the activity of the resultant NiO-Al 2 O 3 aerogels was investigated for the CO 2 -reforming of CH 4 . The aerogels showed higher and more stable activity for the reforming than an impregnation catalyst. X-ray diffraction analysis and temperatureprogrammed reduction suggested that fine nickel particles were formed on the aerogels with high dispersion and that they interacted strongly with alumina aerogel supports. The hi… Show more

“…All samples have overlapped peaks consisting of MgO (JCPDS 77‐2179), NiO‐MgO solid solution, and CoO‐MgO solid solution phases 17, 18 at around 2 θ = 37°, 43°, 62.3°, and 78.6°. Notably, specific peaks of Co 3 O 4 were not found in the XRD patterns, indicating that the active metal species were highly dispersed 19, 20. The XRD analysis proved that all catalysts were well‐crystallized 21.…”

“…The combustionsynthesis has been well explored for preparing Ni-based nanocatalysts, however, the great concerns on safety and environment are raised [10]. Ni-based aerogel catalysts prepared by supercritical drying (SCD) of the catalysts precursor hydrogel represent a simple and cost-effective technique to synthesise the finite Ni-based catalysts with high surface area and excellent performance in dry reforming [11]. However, the aerosol itself could not fully overcome the issue of deactivation due to coking in the fixed bed reformer [12].…”

“…Therefore, various methods were employed to improve Ni/Al 2 O 3 . Firstly, smaller Ni particles over Al 2 O 3 were prepared to inhibit carbon deposition, because carbon deposition occurs more easily on larger nickel particles than smaller ones . For example, Shang applied atomic layer deposition (ALD) to synthesize Ni/Al 2 O 3 with high dispersion of Ni, resulting in the stable conversion of 93% at 850°C.…”
