Application of Np–Am Mixture in Production of 238Pu in a VVER-1000 Reactor and the Reactivity Effect Caused by Loss-of-Coolant Accident in the Central Np–Am Fuel Assembly

Abstract: This paper presents the results obtained from numerical evaluations for the possibility of large-scale 238Pu production in the light-water VVER-1000 reactor and the reactivity effect caused by the loss-of-coolant accident in the central fuel assembly of the reactor core. This fuel assembly containing the Np–Am-component of minor actinides was placed in the center of the reactor core and intended for intense production of 238Pu.
