Application of response surface methodology (RSM) for optimization of cassava starch grafted polyDADMAC synthesis for cationic properties

Abstract: Response surface methodology was used to study the process optimization of cationic percentage through grafting diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DADMAC) into cassava starch. Based on Box-Behken design, quadratic models were developed to correlate the synthesis variables: concentration of DADMAC (A), concentration of initiator (B), and polymerization temperature (C), to the responses of cationic percentage (y). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that the concentration of initiator was the most significant v… Show more

“…The PLSR-VIP method obtained much better result (R 2 p = 0.95 and SEP = 2.56%) than the PLS model developed with all spectral variables (R 2 p = 0.93 and SEP = 2.66%). The VIP-selected variables in the wavelength region 1110-955 cm −1 were due to the presence of starch [33]; and the triplet bands for the C O C absorptions are found at around 1010 cm −1 [34]. The vibrations originate from the C O C bonds related to the ␣-1,4-glycoside linkages, as these bonds are common in carbohydrates.…”

“…8 Response surface methodology has been used to study the process optimization of cationic percentage through graing diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DADMAC) into cassava starch. 9 The optimization of novel nanocomposites based on poly(carbonate-urea) urethane and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) has been used in medicine especially in cardiovascular applications employing response surface methodology. 10 In that study, design of experiment methodology was used to develop a predictive model to optimize the operating conditions for graing controlled amounts of carboxylic functional groups onto the surface of POSS-PCU, which could then be used for the coupling of ECM proteins.…”

“…More importantly, resistant starch also has various functions including the regulation of blood sugar level and prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, colon cancer, and colorectal cancer. Therefore, resistant starch exhibits more potential benefits to the health care profession than DF [12].…”
