Application of Turkevich Method for Gold Nanoparticles Synthesis to Fabrication of SiO2@Au and TiO2@Au Core-Shell Nanostructures

Abstract: The Turkevich synthesis method of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) was adopted for direct fabrication of SiO2@Au and TiO2@Au core-shell nanostructures. In this method, chloroauric acid was reduced with trisodium citrate in the presence of amine-functionalized silica or titania submicroparticles. Core-shells obtained in this way were compared to structures fabricated by mixing of Turkevich AuNPs with amine-functionalized silica or titania submicroparticles. It was found that by modification of reaction conditions of th… Show more

“…Any number of metallic salts can be reduced to produce the corresponding NPs likesilver, gold, iron, zinc oxide, copper, cobalt, palladium, platinum, etc. Reduction of these salts can be achieved by various chemical agentsamino-boranes [26], hydrazine [27], oleylamine [28], polyols, oxalic acid [29], sugar [30], citrate-the Turkevich method [31] and sodium borohydride (NaBH 4 ) BrustÀ Schiffrin synthesis (BSS) [32]. However, gold and AgNPs are synthesized majorly through Turkevich method and NaBH 4 BSS, respectively.…”

“…The main implementation barrier of hybrid nanocatalyst arises from their complex synthesis, 17,18 the non-uniform decoration of metallic nanoparticles 19,20 and recycling. 21 In this paper, a novel green synthesis approach to hybrid magnetic nanocomposite catalyst based on Au NPs decorated on cobalt ferrite (CoFe 2 O 4 ) is reported.…”

“…Furthermore, TiO2 is preferred commonly as core material for noble metal shells (e.g., Ag and Au) owing to its improved photocatalytic and antimicrobial properties [13,14]. In order to have control over the final microstructure it is important to understand the formation mechanism of these complex nanoparticles, which is led by nucleation and growth.…”
