Application of zein-modified magnetite nanoparticles in dispersive magnetic micro-solid-phase extraction of synthetic food dyes in foodstuffs

Abstract: A simple method for the simultaneous and trace analysis of four synthetic food azo dyes including carmoisine, ponceau 4R, sunset yellow, and allura red from some foodstuff samples was developed by combining dispersive μ-solid-phase extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection. Zein-modified magnetic Fe O nanoparticles were prepared and used for μ-solid-phase extraction of trace amounts of mentioned food dyes. The prepared modified magnetic nanoparticles were characterized by… Show more

“…For example, LLE requires large amount of toxic organic solvents and is environmentally unfriendly . Although SPE uses much less solvent than LLE, it suffers from the limitations such as being time‐consuming and column blocking . In recent years, a novel SPE mode based on the use of magnetic adsorbents, named magnetic solid‐phase extraction (MSPE), has been developed .…”

“…In recent years, SPE has been widely adopted for sample preparation in CE, owing to low solvent consumption and high preconcentration factors, whereas the SPE cleanup procedure is still time consuming and costly. Recently, dispersive micro‐solid‐phase extraction (DMSPE) has emerged as a miniaturization model of SPE based on use of a small amount of the sorbent phase . Compared with the traditional SPE, DMSPE exhibits some advantages, such as the short time requirement, less solvent consumption, and absence of complex equipment.…”
