Application Value of NT-proBNP Combined with NLR in Evaluation of Major Adverse Cardiac Events in Elderly Patients with Chronic Heart Failure

Abstract: Objective. To explore the application value of N-terminal pro-B type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) combined with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in evaluation of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in elderly patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods. 50 CHF patients admitted to the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of our hospital from January 2021 to December 2021 were selected as the observation group. Another 50 non-CHF patients of our hospital were selected as the control group. Clini… Show more

“…In particular, NLR and MLR had high sensitivities of 88.18% and 74.55%, respectively, and high specificities of 81.30% and 79.14%, respectively. The NLR cut-off was similar to that of the NLR cut-off of 3.96, which showed adverse cardiac events in a previous human study [ 48 ]. Therefore, CBC indices could be used as useful indicators for predicting the presence and severity of MMVD, particularly NLR and MLR, which showed high efficacy in detecting disease progression.…”

“…NT-proBNP release can also be stimulated by the increased inflammatory response triggered by plaque rupture and the release of inflammatory factors. The present study confirms that elevated NT-proBNP levels have strong predictive value for MACE after ACS [22][23][24]. Severe coronary artery disease may lead to an increased infarct size and damaged myocardium, resulting in myocardial diastolic dysfunction, increased release of NT-proBNP stimulated by inflammatory factors, and severe cardiac insufficiency.…”

“…Following myocardial infarction, necrosis of the myocardium can lead to an inflammatory storm that can further disrupt the homeostasis of the myocardial environment, potentially resulting in adverse cardiovascular events (9). In this context, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is a readily available, inexpensive, and credible indicator of systemic inflammation, and thus has been evaluated in our study as a potential biomarker for predicting in-hospital and long-term cardiovascular outcomes.…”
