Applications of capillary electrophoresis on microchip

Abstract: CE on microchip is an emerging separation technique that has attracted wide attention and gained considerable popularity. Because of miniaturization of the separation format, CE on chip typically offers shorter analysis time and lower reagent consumption with potential development of portable analytical instrumentation. This review with 143 references is focused on proteins and peptides analysis, DNA separation including fragment sizing, genotyping, mutation detection and sequencing, and also the analysis of l… Show more

“…Understandably, utilizing the potential of microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip led to an early realization of CE-on-a-chip [39]. The small size, low consumption of sample, chemicals and power and a wide variety of applications of the microfluidic chips present a tremendous potential for the development of portable analytical instrumentation [40].…”

“…Chip-based separation technologies have been commercialized by numerous companies (e.g., Agilent, Caliper, Cepheid, Fluidigm, Gyros and Micronics) [40]. Chip-based CE (chip-CE) can be utilized in proteomic analysis [41], DNA separation, including sequencing [42][43][44], fragment sizing and genotyping [45], analysis of low-molecular-weight compounds (e.g., explosive residues and warfare agents) [46], food analysis [47], and analysis of pharmaceuticals, drugs and various analytes in body fluids [48].…”

“…Microchip capillary electrophoresis (CE) coupled with laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) detection offers CE separations with speed, sensitivity, ease of automation and low consumption of reagents [1][2][3]. Many techniques developed in traditional CE have been transferred onto microchip CE with appropriate modifications [3][4][5][6][7].…”
