Applications of ferroelectrics in photovoltaic devices

Abstract: Ferroelectric materials exhibiting anomalous photovoltaic properties are one of the foci of photovoltaic research. We review the foundations and recent progress in ferroelectric materials for photovoltaic applications, including the physics of ferroelectricity, nature of ferroelectric thin films, characteristics and underlying mechanism of the ferroelectric photovoltaic effect, solar cells based on ferroelectric materials, and other related topics. These findings have important implications for improving the e… Show more

“…In the past several decades, researchers have been striving to open different corridors for the production of renewable energy. In this regard, photovoltaics (PVs) have been demonstrated to be a promising renewable energy technology to harvest solar energy [1][2][3], one of the most abundant energy sources available on Earth [4].…”

“…A ferroelectric's properties can vary drastically between the bulk and thin-film forms, and the origins and applications of these differences have been increasingly studied in recent years [46]. Ferroelectric thin films provide significant advantages in electronic devices such as increased efficiency in photovoltaic cells [47][48][49] and decreased power usage in non-volatile memory storage [50].…”
