Applications of Metal–Organic Frameworks‐Based Membranes in Separation

Abstract: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a new class of organic-inorganic hybrid microporous crystalline materials formed by the self-assembly of inorganic metal ions and organic ligands. Due to their high specific surface area, tunable pore structures, good thermal stability, and exceptional porosity, MOFs are introduced as novel fillers for incorporation in the polymeric matrix to form composite membranes for different applications. In this review, the synthesis methods of MOFs and the preparation methods of MOFs… Show more

“…Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), composed of organic ligands and metal ions through self-assembly, are recognized as promising alternatives to traditional piezoelectric/ferroelectric materials due to their exceptionally large specific surface area, high porosity, high transition metal content, and chemically tunable structures. 89 However, research often overlooks the influence of elemental properties and electronic states on the metal-ligand centers in these frameworks. Li and colleagues synthesized different metal center sites in MOFs, including MIL-101(Cr) and MIL-101(Fe), for piezocatalytic production of H 2 O 2 .…”

“…44 Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of organicinorganic hybrid materials formed by the assembly of organic ligands and metal centres through coordination bonds. 45,46 Due to their unique properties such as structural versatility, designability, high specific surface area and porosity, MOFs are widely used in various research fields such as environmental governance, energy storage and catalysis. 47,48 In recent years, a large number of studies have used MOFs as precursors for the preparation of MOF-based derivatives, which form porous carbon nanomaterials by thermal decomposition.…”
