Applied Implications of Reinforcement History Effects

Abstract: Although the influence of reinforcement history is a theoretical focus of behavior analysis, the specific behavioral effects of reinforcement history have received relatively little attention in applied research and practice. We examined the potential effects of reinforcement history by reviewing nonhuman, human operant, and applied research and interpreted the findings in relation to possible applied significance. The focus is on reinforcement history effects in the context of reinforcement schedules commonly… Show more

“…Considerations such as each participant's experience with a particular teaching strategy may have affected their performance in the current study (Coon & Miguel, 2012;Pipkin & Vollmer, 2009); especially for those participants who had an extensive history with learning via methods of applied behavior analysis that involved trials of matching-tosample (i.e., conditional discrimination). “…There has been an increasing number of studies conducted in applied behavior analysis on the effects of reinforcement history on behavioral resurgence (Lattal & St. Peter Pipkin, 2009; Lattal & Wacker, 2015; St. Peter Pipkin & Vollmer, 2009).…”
